Gentle Monster Mock Commercial - UE5 & Virtual Production

For this project, I worked in a team of 5 as a Lighting and Look Development Artist in Unreal to create a mock commercial with close guidance from mentors from Harbor Pictures and ETC. The product we chose was Gentle Monster glasses since we really liked the company’s high fashion and avant garde branding. We were the only real-time team and we also utilized the Virtual Production stage to shoot our talent in the whimsical environments we designed to fit the brand image.

This is our final product with credits in the end. Big thank you to Harbor Pictures, ETC, and Calling All Talent.

These were our Initial storyboards for the project. We really wanted to represent the avant garde nature of the brand.

Here's a quick project breakdown.

I developed an early version of the material of the glasses using substance designer.

Then my teammate Danci Shen and I continued to work on the material.

I kitbashed some models together and textured them for the environments on the XR stage.

Here's the tile textures I made using substance designer as well.

The salt flats environment was a collaboration between Danci and I as well. I setdressed, lit, and tweaked some of the materials. Danci set up the master materials and added some fog cards.

It was my first time on the stage, but thanks to everyone, it was a fun and exciting experience!

Another skill I picked up was color grading to help match the footage we shot with the CG shots.
